The Dr. Jack M. Futoran 1948 Memorial Scholarship

About This Scholarship

In memory of Dr. Jack M. Futoran’s brother, Herbert S. Futoran Esq.

Dr. Jack M. Futoran ’48 practiced Obstetrics and Gynecology in San Francisco, California for over 50 years. He was also an Associate Professor of Ob/Gyn at UC-San Francisco and authored numerous medical articles. Children of Russian immigrants, Dr. Futoran commuted daily by bus from Brooklyn to attend Stuyvesant. At Stuyvesant, he was the captain of the Baseball team and also the lead runner of their winning track relay team. Dr. Futoran credited his years at Stuyvesant with his desire to pursue a career in medicine.

The winner(s) of the Dr. Jack M. Futoran 1948 Memorial Scholarship will each receive $22,500 over four years given as $5,625 per year. The preferred candidate will exhibit a strong background in science with a passion for medicine and/or genetic research.

Applicant Criteria

  1. Candidate must demonstrate financial need as per the standards of the Scholarship Committee
  2. Candidate must exhibit excellence in the sciences with a passion for medicine and/or genetic research
  3. Candidate must be accepted to an accredited four-year college or university and must be enrolled all four years to receive the award each year
