Stuyvesant High School Alumni Association (SHSAA) Elects Elina Tetelbaum ’03 as Board President

We are pleased to announce that SHSAA’s new Board President is Elina Tetelbaum ’03! She has served as a Director of the Board since 2017 and most recently was Co-Chair of the Association’s Governance Committee.

Ms. Tetelbaum brings a deep-rooted commitment to the Stuyvesant community to this new role — as well as a strong track record in community service and non-profit and corporate governance. She begins her work as Board President from the perspective of an alum that looks for ways to give back to our alma mater in meaningful ways.

Lina, as she prefers to be known, grew up in Forest Hills, Queens. Like many other members of the Stuyvesant community, she immigrated to the United States at a young age and is deeply grateful for the opportunities that our high school and our country have afforded her. In her days at Stuyvesant, she participated in Model United Nations and was Captain of the Handball Team. As a mother of two young children, she admits that her handball skills have deteriorated lately for lack of practice, but is always up for a friendly game.

Lina is currently a Corporate Partner at the world-renowned law firm Wachtell, Lipton, Rosen & Katz, handling some of the largest, most complex and demanding transactions globally. She has been named a Dealmaker of the Year by The American Lawyer, was recognized as one of The Deal’s Top Women in Dealmaking, and a Law 360 Rising Star for M&A, among other honors. Lina has also been widely published in leading legal and public policy journals on a variety of topics, and previously served as secretary of the NYC Bar Association’s corporation law committee.

In addition to SHSAA, she has also previously held a number of other leadership roles at non-profit organizations, including those dedicated to supporting the education of women and under-resourced groups. Lina recently served as secretary of the First Generation Harvard Alumni board. She was also President of The Seneca, Inc., a non-profit organization that supports women at Harvard College.

Lina received an A.B. magna cum laude in Economics from Harvard University, and as a John Harvard Scholar was elected a member of Phi Beta Kappa. She completed a J.D. from Yale Law School, where she was awarded the Paul & Daisy Soros Fellowship for New Americans and served as editor-in-chief of the Yale Journal on Regulation and editor of the Yale Law Journal. After law school, Lina served as a law clerk on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit.

Under Lina’s leadership which starts October 1, we will move into the next chapter of our work supporting Stuyvesant High School, and its student body, and promoting fellowship among alumni, including developing a three-year strategic plan in partnership with the Association’s officers and key staff. We anticipate an exciting ongoing return to in-person education, alumni events, and school programming as we continue to support the Stuyvesant Community for many more years to come ensuring that Stuyvesant remains a beacon of hope for so many bright young New Yorkers.
