The Executive Director Report: November 1, 2015

Hello world!

It’s a cold and rainy day in downtown Manhattan. On a literal bright note we have finalized the venue for our December 16th “Meet and Greet” event with Nascar driver Julia Landauer! Join us at Hanamizuki, located at 143 West 29th St. bet. 6th and 7th Avenues and learn about how a NYC born Stanford graduate ended up racing cars.

Last week, our Board of Directors met and approved the FYE2014 audit as presented by our accountants. Development wasn’t the only committee to highlight the great need for General Fund donations at the meeting. The school requests are starting to accumulate in the office and Allocations is seeking General Fund donations to help fulfill many requests including the below:

  • Chess Tournament trip funding: $6,196 to get to Orlando, Florida. Coach Boericke has already paid for the trip and we would like to reimburse him!
  • Send our music students to NYSSMA (The New York State School Music Association)! The Alumni Association has historically supported this trip and there is an immediate request for $280 to pay for train tickets to Rochester, NY.
  • Computer Science seeks $1,500 per month to support their programs. This will be covered through November 2015 by the Parent’s Association but will need our support starting in December!

And lastly, the Diversity Committee is about to meet tonight to discuss, among other things – the potential for Stuyvesant students to partner with a middle school in Brownsville to help students prepare for the SHSAT.

Stay warm!
