Stuyvesant alumni working or interested in the health care industry are invited to attend a health care industry networking meeting and panel discussion.

The event will be held at the office of Wachtell, Lipton, Rosen & Katz at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 21.

Those who attend will be able to network with other alumni in the health care field, and hear leading Stuyvesant alumni discuss current issues in health care such as cost, telemedicine, clinical research, and end-of-life care. A Q&A session will follow the panel discussion. The panelists include:

This event is part of the Alumni Association’s Industry speaker and networking series, which brings together alumni from all class years working in similar fields. Past industry events include tech, finance, law, entrepreneurship, journalism, and medicine.

Dr. Evelyn Horn ’72 entered Stuyvesant as a sophomore in 1969 as one of the school’s first class of 12 girls. She graduated from Brown University with an A.B. in Mathematical Economics. Evelyn earned her Doctor of Medicine from the Mount Sinai School of Medicine, becoming Stuyvesant’s first female doctor, and trained at Mount Sinai Medical Center, Cedars Sinai/UCLA and Columbia.  In 2007, she moved from Columbia to become the Director of Heart Failure and Pulmonary Hypertension at the Weill Cornell Medical College. She is an active clinical researcher, started her career as a CHEST physician scientist, has been involved in several NIH studies, most recently is a principal investigator on a multicenter NIH grant in “omics” of pulmonary vascular disease, and is actively involved in ongoing industry-sponsored trials in heart failure, device therapy and pulmonary vascular disease with a focus on ventricular and vascular remodeling.  She has received numerous awards and accolades as a clinician educator from Columbia, Cornell, NYPH, the Pulmonary Hypertension Association, Harboring Hearts and serves on leadership committees for the ISHLT, PVRI, ATS, AHA and working groups at the NIH.

Dr. Jay Schechtman ’83 has been the Chief Clinical Officer of Healthfirst for the past 20 years.  Healthfirst has 1.4 million members in NYC and Long Island and is provider-sponsored in a value-based model.  Dr. Schechtman is responsible for population health and supporting the hospital systems and organized physicians in thriving in a risk environment.  Healthfirst is a 4-star plan for Medicare and top-ranked in quality for Medicaid and exchange products.  Dr. Schechtman also serves as Assistant Clinical Professor at the Icahn School of Medicine and is a member of the school’s admission committee.

Dr. Richard Park ’90 is the founder and former CEO of CityMD, the leading urgent care provider in the Seattle and New York metro areas with over 120 sites. Since CityMD merged with Summit Medical Group in August 2019, Dr. Park has been serving as Vice-Chairman of the combined entity. He is board-certified in emergency medicine and was Chief Resident at Long Island Jewish Medical Center. As Associate Director of the residency program in NS-LIJ’s emergency department, Dr. Park received the Teaching Attending of the Year Award in 2003, 2004, 2005, and 2006, and then a system-wide award in 2007. He is the author of McGraw-Hill’s Intensive Review of Emergency Medicine, and is Co-Director of NS-LIJ’s Manhattan Board Review for Emergency Medicine.

Moderator Dr. David Jacobs ’87 is a member of the Alumni Association Board of Directors and is Co-Chair of the Diversity and Outreach Committee. He is a board-certified internist and obtained a BS in biochemistry from Stony Brook University, a medical degree from UMDNJ Rutgers Medical School, and an MBA from Fairleigh Dickinson University. David is currently an executive in biotech and has worked for Pfizer and for Johnson & Johnson. He is an avid cyclist and volunteers at local community hospitals and in the Caribbean providing pro bono medical service.
